Curriculum

Blossom Home Childcare incorporates thematic weekly prompts to create a dynamic and enriching learning environment. While infants and toddlers are not yet ready for structured lessons, Blossom Home Childcare plans engaging, nurturing activities that promote growth in areas such as motor skills, language development, and social interaction. We keep these themes loose and open-ended, allowing children to explore freely.

  • Colors: Introduce bright and contrasting colors through toys, books, and sensory mats.

  • Textures: Explore soft, rough, smooth, or crinkly objects.

  • Sounds: Play with rattles, bells, and musical instruments.

  • Nature: Bring in safe natural objects like leaves or flowers to encourage exploration of the natural world.

Reggio Emilia & Montessori Inspired

Blossom Home Childcare is a Reggio Emilia and Montessori inspired home daycare. As the teacher, I am passionate about providing a rich and engaging learning environment for young children. Drawing from my own experience, and from the best practices of Reggio Emilia and Montessori approaches, I created a program that combines their most effective elements to foster holistic development. This foundation supports not only cognitive and motor development, but also emotional and social skills, laying the groundwork for lifelong learning.

Benefits of Reggio Emilia for Infants

  1. Child-Centered Learning: Infants are encouraged to explore their interests, fostering natural curiosity and engagement with their environment.

  2. Expression Through Multiple "Languages": Languages are symbolic and describe the mediums used for self expression, such as art, movement, and music, which helps infants communicate their feelings and thoughts.

  3. Social Interaction: Emphasis on collaborative activities encourages infants to interact with each other, supporting early social skills and emotional development.

  4. Environment as a Teacher: Carefully designed spaces stimulate exploration and sensory experiences, promoting cognitive development through interaction with their surroundings.

  5. Documentation of Growth: Observing and documenting infants' progress helps educators tailor experiences to individual needs, ensuring each child's unique development is supported.

Benefits of Montessori for Infants

  1. Promoting Independence: Encourages infants to explore and make choices, fostering a sense of autonomy and confidence from a young age.

  2. Prepared Environment: Materials are specifically designed for developmental stages, promoting fine and gross motor skills through purposeful play.

  3. Hands-On Learning: The focus on sensory experiences allows infants to learn through touch, movement, and exploration, which is crucial for their cognitive and physical development.

  4. Routine and Structure: A consistent environment helps infants feel secure and understand their environment, supporting emotional stability.

  5. Respect for Individual Pace: Montessori emphasizes that each child develops at their own pace, allowing infants to progress according to their unique developmental timeline.
